Jane Jacobs was an American-Canadian author, journalist, and activist who heavily influenced sociology, urban studies, and economics. She argued against the disrespect of urban renewal and introduced important concepts in sociology like "social capital" and "eyes on the street." She didn't need a college degree to criticize the male domination of urban planning. She died in 2006.
