Emily Schumacher, LPC, ATR is a neurodivergent, white, cis, straight, psychoanalytic psychotherapist and registered art therapist currently residing in New Orleans, LA. She was raised in a typical North Jersey suburb where each McMansion only varied by color or limited layout choice from the neighborhood’s developer. She worked at a tanning salon in high school, smoked Marlboro menthol cigarettes in diners, and spent weekends mainly driving around between the local movie theater and the Dunkin’ Donuts listening to early 2000’s Emo music with her first real boyfriend. She was convinced she would marry him. She was wrong and she was orange.
Today she owns and operates her own therapeutic private practice focused on adults and creating a safe space for all. She is currently a psychotherapy fellow at The New Orleans-Birmingham Psychoanalytic Center and an artist of many mediums. She has over 10 years of clinical experience and study which she has utilized to bring readers this approachable look into psychoanalytic theory and how they can apply it to themselves in order to build insight and improve their romantic lives.
