Healing Plants: From Elizabeth Blackwell's A Curious Herbal
by Marta McDowell Author
This tiny treasury of medicinal plants contains information and illustration of healing plants as originally documented in Elizabeth Blackwell’s Curious Herbal, published in 1737. While Blackwell originally published information on her craft as a way to make money after her husband was put in debtors prison, the times loved it and it became a prized reference among apothecaries and doctors. In here, there are each of the 140 hand-colored engravings of the plants originally featured in her book. This book was compiled under the direction of Marta McDowell, a renowned herbologist and gardener in her own right, who adds an introduces Blackwell and the time conditions of her situation and times. This book is smaller, making it an apt, easy to carry quick reference and gift for those interested in thing to do with plants, herbs, botany, or gardening.
