Americanah
by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Author
This novel is everything. At its most simplistic, it's a love story set in Nigeria, the US, and the UK. It's so much more than that, though, an intricately woven, powerful, stylish, unpretentious complex of observations about immigration, identity, race, class, gender, work, generational change, and of course hair. Ifemelu is an unforgettable heroine, the sort of person you might aspire to grow up and become. The book follows her life and blogging career, from school in Lagos to poverty and then fame and the Ivy League in the US, and back to Lagos. We don't carry a lot of literary novels; this one is really special.
