Beetle Busters: A Rogue Insect and the People Who Track It

by Loree Griffin Burns Author and Ellen Harasimowicz Illustrator

The Asian longhorned beetle, an invasive pest originally from China, has been wreaking havoc on hardwood trees in parts of the United States and Canada. These beetles, introduced via shipping materials, have spread through urban areas and are now threatening forests in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, and Toronto. Stopping this pest requires a massive coordinated effort, involving local residents, scientists, and even trained beetle-sniffing dogs. The challenge is balancing the needs of communities with the urgent task of protecting vulnerable trees from the destructive beetles.
