Cranky Caterpillar
by Richard Graham Author
This is a charming story about a cranky caterpillar and Ezra, the little girl who cheers him up. Ezra hears a gloomy blue tune from the piano. To her surprise, it’s a cranky caterpillar. She tries to cheer him up with fresh air, cakes, and new hats, but nothing works. What can Ezra do to help the cranky caterpillar change his tune?
Richard Graham, an illustrator with a distinctive style, created The Cranky Caterpillar from his artistic sculptural creations, including a caterpillar made from piano hammers and musical characters sculpted from studio materials. Inspired by Wassily Kandinsky’s color synesthesia, the book shows the magical colors of music. Children will relate to the caterpillar’s struggle to express his emotions and delight in the inventive friends who cheer him up. This book was made for readers ages 4 to 8 in mind.
