Trust the Plan: The Rise of QAnon and the Conspiracy That Unhinged America

by Will Sommer Author

This book is a deep dive into the rise of QAnon — what is it? How did this movement gain traction, from ordinary citizens and lawmakers alike? What threats does this movements (and others like it) pose to democracy? Importantly, how can one reach out to those who have embraced conspiracy and dissemination of lies?

What began as an online forum for fringe beliefs in the mid 2000s became embraced by millions of Americans and was directly linked to the insurrection efforts that occurred on January 6th, 2021. At the center of this conspiracy movement is the enigmatic “Q”, an anonymous user claiming to be a high-level government insider with “Q-level” clearance. The range of claims by this user range from claiming that Donald Trump wrongfully lost the 2020 election to him being anointed by God to lead the country against child abusers and cannibal Democrats. The book also looks into the lives of followers and how many have ostracized themselves from their loved ones.
