cartoon scientist in a lab coat in front of a pink elephant

This Book Can Read Your Mind

by Susannah Lloyd Author and Jacob Grant Illustrator

Think of anything, but don’t think of something silly, like a pink elephant. When you turn the page, a pink elephant appears! The book plays on the idea that when you’re told not to think of something, you think about it more. A scientist switches on a mind-reading machine. Look hard at the book and stay still. He says it will take a moment or two to focus. He points out a dial that monitors for silliness. Accidentally, you make the pink elephant appear. Then, multiple pink elephants appear. What if the scientist tells you not to think of the elephants playing the tuba or wearing silly underpants? As the book continues, the scientist gets distraught, but there’s plenty of fun for the reader.

Bright, engaging illustrations and laughs galore make this story enjoyable for children ages 2 to 5.
