Maybe You Should Talk To Someone : A Therapist, HER Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed

by Lori Gottlieb Author

This book is an exploration and personal account of the world of therapy. Author and therapist Lori Gottlieb, in familiar and accessible tone, talks about her practice and experiences on both sides of the couch.

The story follows Lori's journey: going into crisis and from there into the office of a more seasoned practitioner — Wendell. During this struggle finding her blind spots and finding firm ground, she recounts the wide array of patients she meets with — where she ironically can identify their blinders. There's a narcissistic Hollywood producer, suicidal elders, a 20-something unable to stop hooking up with the wrong guy again (including one that had been in the waiting room), and more. Through her anecdotes, she exposes the diversity of human wants and needs, as well as the different outcomes and situations. Above all, she tells stories of connection — ones where it’s gone wrong and some that found redemption, fulfillment, and stability.
