Belonging: The Science of Creating Connection and Bridging Divides

by Geoffrey L. Cohen Author

This book is for those who haven't yet been sold to the idea of belonging to a group but long for it -- which is a large swath of people in today's age. Belonging, as the book puts it, is the feeling of being part of a group that values, respects, is invested in, and cares for us. This is a feeling that most people are able to cultivate, but this book's aim is to give you goals and tools to be able to foster this sense. The benefits purported are enviable by the pharmaceutical industry: with the researchers finding outcomes such as increased productivity, better health outcomes, and ultimately stronger communities (duh, but not quite). This is a compelling book for people of all backgrounds -- racial/ethnic, socioeconomic, as the benefits of actually having more connected lives is the key to many bettered outcomes in life and society.
