The World's Loneliest Elephant: Based on the True Story of Kaavan and His Rescue
by Ralph Fletcher Author and Naoko Stoop Illustrator
Kaavan, an elephant who spent years in captivity at a Pakistani zoo, suffered from loneliness and poor living conditions, especially after losing his only companion, Saheli. His declining health caught the attention of animal rights activists, leading veterinarian Dr. Amir Khalil to intervene. With global support and the help of singer and activist Cher, efforts were made to rescue him. Kaavan was successfully relocated to the Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary, where he now lives among other elephants. No longer the world’s loneliest elephant, his story is a testament to compassion and perseverance.
