The Scalpel and the Soul: Encounters with Surgery, the Supernatural, and the Healing Power of Hope
by Allan J. Hamilton, MD, FACS Author
This book talks a neurosurgeon’s accounts of his experiences with his professional career, life, death, and the good-bad-ugly of it all. Allan J. Hamilton is a Harvard educated graduate of Harvard Medical School with an extensive bibliography of authored works. It may come as a surprise to some, obvious to others, that in this book he’ll engage with elements of the supernatural. Hamilton goes on to explain how superstition, hope, faith, and other supernatural beliefs influence the the patient on the table and in regard to positive outcomes. He as such has become an advocate for patients to get in touch with their spirituality, as he himself has witnessed as “the mysterious, attractive powers the soul exerts”.
