Oil for Your Lamp: Women Taking Care of Themselves

by Lisa Hammond Author and BJ Gallagher Author

Most women are so busy caring for their loved ones that they neglect themselves. They spend so much time and energy on their children, husbands, aging parents, friends, neighbors, bosses, and coworkers that they often run low on their own lamps. Mother Teresa said, “To keep a lamp burning, we must keep adding oil.”

Awareness is the first step to solving this problem. This book aims to help us acknowledge and understand the reasons behind this neglect. Chapter 1 explores how girls are socialized to prioritize others. Chapter 2 examines the values women have adopted in the past 50 years, starting with the feminist movement, which led to the belief that we can have it all. Chapter 3 explores the corresponding myth that we can achieve it all.
