Book of Camouflage: The Art of Disappearing

by Tim Newark Author

This book traces camouflage patterning from Wehrmacht field gray to US Army green, Commonwealth khaki, and its current combat use. Author Tim Newark and his father, Peter Newark, curated the book’s images from Peter’s extensive personal library dating back to the late 1960s. Notable artists include George Caitlin, Charles Hamilton Smith, Richard Simkin, Ernest Shepherd, and Edward Wadsworth. The book features unique camouflage paintings from a 1920 French publication reproduced by the Imperial War Museum for their Camouflage exhibition.

Tim Newark provides a field guide to camouflage, covering conception to use, colors to key patterns, and examples from World War II German uniforms, Vietnam-era American uniforms, British DPM, and modern armies. Illustrated with patterns and images in use, the book offers a quick and detailed overview of prolific camouflage patterns.
