Elephant House (Animalibus: Of Animals and Cultures)

Photographer Dick Blau and historian Nigel Rothfels combine forces to present this examination of the daily routines of its residents―human and pachyderm alike―in the Oregon Zoo’s Asian Elephant Building. Even though the very idea of zoos has become problematic, their only agenda was to help forge a deeper understanding of this unique environment. Elephant House features complex photographs accompanied by erudite text to provide an honest look at the world of elephant husbandry.
