George Jackson, a political activist and revolutionary, was killed by prison guards during an alleged escape attempt in 1971. He was 29 years old. Jackson had been in prison for 11 years, seven of them in solitary confinement. During his time in prison, he read widely and transformed himself into a leading voice for black liberation. This book, Blood in My Eye, was written in the immediate days before his death and remains a powerful challenge to institutional racism.
