Speaking American: How Y’all, Youse, and You Guys Talk -- A Visual Guide

This book about how and why Americans say the words we say comes from the author's interactive dialect quiz in the New York Times that became the most viewed page in that paper's history. This book is a graphic presentation of the results of that quiz, and maps out where and why people mow the lawn or cut the grass, how people say "pecan", and where and what Americans mean when they say "the City". All of these linguistic oddities and subtlties come together in maps of how Americans speak that provide endless insight into our language and ourselves.
