A Shape in the Dark : Living and Dying with Brown Bears

This is collection of accounts of interactions with the world of brown bears woven together. It is all threaded together by the author and wilderness guide Bjorn Dihle's personal experience as a lifelong Alaskan. He shares the different historical documented encounters with this animal, the polemic regarding bear hunting, encounters along the Lewis and Clark expedition and the contrasting account of the brown bear's place in native cultures, as well as the modern day impact of climate change resulting in the degradation of their habitats.
