Sellout: The Major-Label Feeding Frenzy That Swept Punk, Emo, and Hardcore (1994-2007)
by Dan Ozzi Author
In this historical account of the punk music scene beginning in the mid 90's, author Dan Ozzi chronicles the changes that the scene underwent in the aftermath of Nirvana's Nevermind. Record labels, eager to recreate their success with Nirvana, set their sights on the underground punk scene, but the punk bands themselves were torn about whether or not to sign on. The ethos of punk up till that time had been marked by a strong anti-establishment streak and many bands were not ready to give up their authenticity to score some cash. The resulting schism between the bands that did sign on and those that didn't is the subject of this book. Complete with interviews from Green Day, Blink-182, My Chemical Romance, Against Me! and many of the other most notable names in punk at that time, Ozzi's book is a must-read for any lover of punk rock.
